Ally: What is your online nickname?

Gingerpig: Gingerpig

Ally: What is your role on The Fellowship of the Fog? i.e. Mod Squad/Chat Host

Gingerpig: Mod Squad, Chat Host, Chat Co-ordinator

Ally: How many candles appeared on your last birthday cake?

Gingerpig: 33

Ally: On what date do you regularly blow them out?

Gingerpig: 22nd May 1971

Ally: Location?

Gingerpig: Planet Guinea Pig! (A minor satellite somewhere in the solar system, composed entirely of hay)

Ally: Statistics :

Gingerpig: Vital, hopefully

Ally: Marital Status?

Gingerpig: Engaged

Ally: How long have you had ME/CFS?

Gingerpig: About 6 years, but I think I’ve always had the tendency as always been v tired, and allergic to everything lol.

Ally: What valuable lessons have you learnt from your illness and what gifts has it brought to you?

Gingerpig:
1) If I'm angry, face it, sort it and let go of it.
2) limit worry time
3) not to panic when I feel ill, but just to pace
4) to do what I need to do rather than what I want to
5) feel the fear and do it anyway lololololol
6) ultimate and unending compassion for suffering - my own and everyone else’s. In a very real way there’s no distinction between the 2.
7) understanding I will mistakes, but its necessary to pick myself up and start again
8) No worries about coping/ not coping. Try not coping, and seeing what happens lol
9) Pacing!
10) Ultimately I can only control my responses and no one else’s, so why worry about other peoples responses, why not just be me, and do what I can, and not stretch myself to do more which is probably impossible anyhow
11) Feel the inadequacy and do what I can anyway lololololol.
12) Say “B***er it to a lot more things”
13) Lots and lots of laughter!
14) Chew my food properly, savour every minute!
15) Allowing myself to be happy, remembering its what I’m here for. I don’t have to cling to sadness, although because of my background its much easier lolololol. Being happy is far more frightening, but much better :D

As a result of all the above I feel much happier and more peaceful, and I do honestly think ME is the only way I could have begun to appreciate any of these things. There is a wonderful quote that says something along the lines of “Illness is the only teacher we listen to”. Obviously I would not want to suggest that we should learn any particular thing from ME, but this is my own, very personal path as to what has helped me. I also know that it will continue to be a very important and much needed kicking “Rachel up the behind” experience lololololol.

Ally: What do you regret most about your illness ?

Gingerpig: Nowt

Ally: How many piercings do you have and where?

Gingerpig: 8, all in my ears. 6 in my left, 2 in my right, but don’t wear ear rings in them now. Ooo forgot about the hole in my schnozzle as well lol, also not wearing a ring in there.

Ally: What is your favourite drink to drink?

Gingerpig: Hot chocolate, but I mainly drink water

Ally: What makes you tick ?

Gingerpig: Nowt.

Ally: What was your most irrational act?

Gingerpig: ummmmmmm, ooooooo well the most fun was throwing an alarm clock out the window when it hadn’t woken me up one morning. It was sooo satisfying seeing it get squished on the road, but of course I wouldn’t do anything like that now ahem *coughing fit*

Ally: What was your most humbling experience?

Gingerpig: Well I don’t actually understand this, but we went to a display recently of the Buddha’s relics, and I felt the most incredible desire to sort out everyone’s bad stuff. I came out in a very weird, but nice place, feeling totally blessed, and very small. So I guess that was humbling, but I cant say why. I think for me, the best thing was just knowing there was so much good in the world to be grateful for, regardless of religion, creed, colour etc, that was humbling. And it made me cry.

Ally: What 5 words best describe you?

Gingerpig: Bright, happy, warm, caring, confident

and finally … but without doubt most importantly ….
